VOL 5 NO 8 - October 16, 2008

Friends and Volunteers,

We have been advised by the City of DeWitt (see below) that the river bank stabilization project set for Saturday the 18th in Riverside Park  is being delayed until next spring due to the lack of an MDEQ permit.  That means the eroding south side bank will be sbject to two more high water seasons before we have an opportunity to stabilize it and save the dozen and a half trees at risk on the bank in that area.  On behalf of the FLG Board, thank you all for your continued support, and we hppe we can count on you after the spring floods subside, to get this project completed - assuming the DEQ permit.

The design plan can be reviewed on the FLG website:  double click on this live link:  http://www.lookingglassriverfriends.org/042208_presentation.pdf

NOTE that due to the on again/off again nature of this project, as well as the high waters of late, the annual logjam bee has been postponed as well.  That's not to say that we haven't been clearing / cutting several jams - we have.  If any of you feel a need to slosh around for a half day or so in the river sometime before the snow flies, pull on the saders and call me.  We'll visit one or two sites that need some attention.   Sue - hope you bought your much desired/deserved chainsaw!
