Morrison Lake, Ionia County, MI
June 5, 2009
As a private vendor treats the SE shoreline of Morrison Lk. for a thick algae bloom, a resident Mute Swan* family and a logfull of Blanding's Turtles enjoy the sunny June day on the island.
"Mute" Swans are not mute of course, just usually less vocal than other swan species. Transplants from Europe, Mutes are among the world's largest flying birds. They're distinguished by their all-white plumage, orange beak surrounded by black, and a large knob atop their "forehead".
